The prince of the underworld, he can walk through his gambling halls and fights without breaking a sweat but as to the needs of Penelope he has no clue. He gains a wife and the lands but has no idea what to do with Penelope. Michael, Marques of Bourne, returns to get back the lands he lost in a game of cards. Every time she defied Michael’s wishes I cheered her on. This was the best part of the story, watching Penelope experience new things. Penelope begins to explore other parts of her personality that were previously dormant. After spending so many years under her parent’s guidance and trying to make an acceptor match, she uses this marriage with Michael to finally have an adventure. She has spent the years since with some suitors but no one has ever garnered her interest.

The heroine and hero, Penelope and Bourne or Michael, have fast become one of my favorite all time book couples. This is the first story in The Rules of Scoundrels series and sets up the rest of the characters that will be involved in the series. It was engaging, entertaining and filled with scandal.
